Decide on What Features You Want

When deciding what dog house to build, first consider what features you are looking for. Before choosing specific dog house plans, make sure they have what you want. The dog house in this picture is an insulated doghouse and has a porch for your dog to lie on. The insulation for the plans is optional. It is recommended in areas that experience extreme temperatures. This structure is very sturdy with a regular asphalt roof, to keep rain and other weather elements out. You can also find dog house heaters that help heat your dog's new home in the winter. This dog house also has a hinged side door for easy cleaning and also used to feeding and water your pet.

Starting With The Right Plans

Unless you are an experienced carpenter, you would probably want to buy some plans on how to build a dog house step by step. If you have easy to follow plans, your project will go much smoother and you will end up with a much nicer doghouse.

Good Dog House Plans Include Tools & Materials Needed

Some like to go the cheap route and get free dog house plans online. You may have heard the saying, "you get what you pay for." Unfortunately, that is about what you normally get with free plans, not much. If you pay a few bucks, you can get some really nice plans. The dog house plans for the one shown above has 47 pages of detailed instructions. Included in that instruction is a listing of all materials needed to build the doghouse. It also lists all of the tools needed for the project.

Finishing Your Dog House

Caulking open areas and using foam insulation can make a big difference in keeping outside temperatures out. Adding an insulated doghouse door will also help a lot. Painting the exterior of the structure will make it last, and not deteriorate in the weather. Also, using a good quality shingle can preserve your doghouse for a long time.

Where to Put Your Doghouse

Find an area that you think will best fit your dog and the weather in your area. If you live where there are severe thunder storms, you may not want to place the dog house under a tall tree, since lightning typically hits the highest object and travels down the center of the tree. But,. if you live in a very hot area, you may want to place your furry friend's new home in the shade. If you get strong winds, maybe next to another building would be good. If you don't want dog poop all over your yard, you may want to create a dog run and place the dog house in that area.

Summary - Now Get Started

When you have found the right dog house plans, and have decided where you are going to put it, get started. It won't be long until your furry friend has a brand new home. Put the finishing touches on it so your dog will be comfortable regardless of the weather. I hope he or she gets a lot of enjoyment from it!
